4 Marvel Superheroes We Can’t Wait to Have Their Own Movies
Marvel already has its “Phase 3” line of movies planned out through the end of 2018, and there are plenty more projects coming down the pipe set to star even more of our favorite heroes. These are a few that we can’t wait to take center stage on the big screen along with a couple that desperately deserve their own moment in the spotlight.
When it comes to Black Panther, all we can say is that it’s about time! Marvel has included plenty of African-Americans in is cinematic universe, but they’ve always been supporting roles, playing second fiddle to the next great white hope. Black Panther is finally set to make his big-screen debut in the ensemble superhero blockbuster, ‘Captain America: Civil War.’ His own movie won’t be hitting theaters until 2018, but Indiewire reports that Marvel has started its big marketing push. This includes wearable panther claws and a mask being prepped for stores in advance of ‘Civil War.’ The publisher has also started a highly anticipated new Black Panther comic written by acclaimed author Ta-Nehisi Coates. ‘Black Panther’ will be directed by Ryan Coogler, best known for ‘Fruitvale Station’ and recent smash hit ‘Creed.’
2018 can’t come soon enough.
This one isn’t currently planned, but that hasn’t stopped people from asking for it, a lot. Black Widow is one of the few superheroines that has actually had a major role in the MCU (sorry Scarlet Witch), and the fact that she doesn’t have her own movie planned is downright criminal. The Russian assassin and super spy was initially introduced in ‘Iron Man 2’, and while the sequel hasn’t been the most well-received of the Marvel movies, it was successful enough to get its own casual slot-themed title on Gala Bingo’s platform. While it’s known mostly for its bingo options, the site is highlighting the ‘Iron Man 2’ game featuring the main characters from the movie, and notably Black Widow. There’s really no question that she’s quickly become a fan favorite.
A Black Widow movie is long overdue and we can only hope that Marvel will wake up to the overwhelming demand from fans and get started on a movie as soon as possible.
Despite having plenty of strong women featured in the Marvel Cinematic Universe—among them Pepper Potts, Scarlet Witch, Maria Hill, and, of course, Black Widow—the company has yet to have a woman carry the title for her own film. While Marvel has offered female-fronted TV shows in ‘Agent Carter’ and ‘Marvel’s Jessica Jones,’ it’s high time that the publisher showed the ladies some love on the big screen. Thankfully, ‘Captain Marvel’ is currently prepped to be the first female-fronted superhero film in the MCU. While DC might beat Marvel out of the gate with its ‘Wonder Woman’ movie, it’s still better late than never. Seeing as the movie is so far out, there’s little word on potential casting. However, Cinema Blend noted that recent Oscar winner Brie Larson would be perfect for the role. We’ve got to admit that she would be a great fit if Marvel can land her.
‘Captain Marvel’ is currently planned for a 2018 release.
When we heard that Marvel decided to make ‘Doctor Strange,’ we had to pinch ourselves to check our disbelief. Marvel’s sorcerer supreme has long been a pivotal member of the Marvel Universe. With the hints that the mad titan Thanos will soon battle our heroes, it makes sense that Doctor Strange would make an appearance. That being said, we never expected him to get his own movie. As big as ‘Civil War’ is going to be, Movie Pilot suggested that “‘Doctor Strange’ could be even bigger.” It will definitely open up entirely new avenues for the MCU as it begins to delve further into the world of magic and mysticism.
You’ll have to wait till fall, though, because ‘Doctor Strange’ won’t be released until Nov. 4, 2016.
