The Accountant Teaser Trailer: Starring Ben Affleck, Anna Kendrick, J.K. Simmons…

I don’t normally post about trailers, I usually just upload them and add them to our movie trailers page without a write up. But this one for a new Warner Bros film called “The Accountant” came out of nowhere for me, which is crazy because of the all star cast including Ben Affleck, Anna Kendrick, J.K. Simmons, Jon Bernthal, Jeffrey Tambor, John Lithgow and directed by Gavin O’Connor. I know right!?

Also this trailer is really, really good. Like the perfect kind of good.

As a lot of you I’m sure would agree, making a trailer is an art form in and of itself. Trailers can be amazing with even the worst source material, or terrible, but be made for great films. That’s why I rarely write about them unless I’m really blown away or really excited for the film. After watching this one I think it’s both:

Christian Wolff, played by Affleck, is a math genius who is also on the autistic spectrum. It’s a storyline that’s been used a lot before for sure, but this time we see the character as a grown up who has used his gift to become just an accountant, or so it seems at first. As the trailer moves on he’s been called in to un-cook some books for a client that’s facing legal ramifications and out of that he gets plunged into some sort of crime mystery where the action builds up fast. Really fast.

We see flashbacks to his youth too where it almost seems like he’s being groomed to be not only a genius, but some sort of spy maybe, or at least someone who is able to defend himself. It’s unclear what his father and mother’s roles are in his situation. It seems like he has a lot of secrets, and maybe so do they.

All of this plus the Radiohead soundtrack and beautiful editing make for a 2 1/2 minute thrill ride of a trailer that I knew nothing about going in, but I’m really glad I watched.

What do you think? Is the magic in the trailer, or is this one going to be good? I’m encouraged.
