Rob

Raised in an imaginary forest peopled by comics legends Stan Lee, Jack Kirby and Jim Steranko, by science fiction visionaries Arthur Clarke and Robert Heinlein, by pop science icons Star Trek, Alien and Doctor Who, by pulp heroes Doc Savage, The Shadow and Tarzan… well, you get the picture. He still wanders that forest examining the old and new, sometimes walking with old travelers (he’s met four Doctors, traded some quips with Stan Lee), sometimes guiding new travelers (given away a lot of comics to new readers, young and old) and always preserving the trails for future travelers (a collection of art, toys, comics and more).

First Look: Dirk Gently on BBC America

Rob 1
BBC America takes over. BBC America took over Madison Square Garden Theater for half a day at New York Comic Con this past weekend, and I only found myself in that dark theater because I needed to get away from the emails, texts and calls threatening to derail my day off. BBC America made a […]

‘Master of Kung Fu’ back in print after 30 years

Rob 1
“Call me Shang-Chi, as my father did when he raised me and molded my mind and my body in the vacuum of his Honan, China retreat. I learned many things from my father: That my name means ‘The Rising and Advancing of a Spirit’, that my body could be forged into a living weapon through […]

Captain America Takes On Conservatives

Rob 1
Why are the Washington Times, Fox News and generally most right-wing bloggers losing their minds over the all-new, all-different Captain America comic series? Because unlike his predecessor Steve Rogers, the new Captain America—former Falcon Sam Wilson—is speaking out about the troubles in America. He’s vocal and taking action against racism, immigration, even freedom of information […]

The New Wunderkind: Lex Luthor

Rob 1
The viral campaign for Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice took a left turn this week when none other than Fortune magazine released a profile of the hottest new darling of the Fortune 500… Lex Luthor. The in-depth profile (found here) describes Alexander Joseph Luthor as the youngest ever to be named Fortune’s Businessperson of the […]

“Civil War” returning to comics!

Rob 0
Marvel as good as announced Civil War II in a mailing to retailers this week. The postcard above was tweeted by Ryan Higgins of Comics Conspiracy in California. Mirroring the original Civil War, it shows the “All-New All-Different” Captain America and Iron Man clashing, it’s drawn by original Civil War artist Steve McNiven, the back […]

Doctor Who Rocks the Season 9 Opener!

Rob 2
Three minutes into The Magician’s Apprentice and I was hooked for the season… in fact, I think I was on the floor after the pre-credits sequence. There’s really no way to discuss the episode without spoilers (sweetie) so here’s the warning: SPOILERS AHEAD. I didn’t get to see the episode on Saturday as I was […]

Is Marvel Killing Off X-Men to Spite Fox?

Rob 2
Conspiracy theories are circulating again that Marvel is sabotaging the Fantastic Four and X-Men to starve Fox Studios of revenue, since Fox continues to hold the movie rights to those characters. But this time, the conspiracy theorists may be right. The rumors have been around for as long as the X-Men have been fading in […]

Rob 1
The second of Marvel’s series on Netflix– Jessica Jones, based on the comic series Alias— just got a release date of November 20, 2015 and a teaser trailer (above). There will be thirteen one-hour episodes, just as with the fantastic first series of Daredevil. Jessica Jones is a retired super-heroine turned private investigator. Think […]

Enter ‘The Void’: The World’s First Virtual Reality Theme Park

Rob 2
A small team of engineers and designers in Utah have taken virtual reality to a new level. They are building an experience that is a seamless blend of virtual reality and real, physical environments. It’s called “The Void.” Like a laser tag room as large as a warehouse with foam walls and screens and touch surfaces that […]

Best of the Star Wars Unboxing Event: The Millennium Falcon Quad Drone

Rob 1
Did you catch Disney’s “Unboxing Event” for all the toys and related merchandise (on sale today, now designated as Force Friday)? We thought the BB-8 remote control droid was the coolest toy ever (see the review here), until this… a Millennium Falcon Quad Drone from Air Hogs. A couple months back, a guy in the […]

The All-New, All-Different Marvel Launches in One Month! The New Marvel Line-Up Part 2

Rob 0
Here it is, the breakdown of titles that start launching early October with a look at what’s new and what’s different and what’s not. In Part 1 of the list (yesterday, see it here), we covered a lot of titles that are continuing from before Secret Wars, a lot of them with the same creative […]

The All-New, All-Different Marvel Launches in One Month! The New Marvel Line-Up Part 1

Rob 1
Have to admit, it was touch and go on whether to use an exclamation point for that headline, or some confused emoji. Looking to capitalize on the obvious success of DC’s New 52 (declining sales, lack of diversity and creative exodus!)(yes, I went with the exclamation point again, that was sarcasm), Marvel is 30 days […]
