In the early days of this new century, BMW decided to make some branded films to showcase their line of cars and team up with creative filmmakers and actors to highlight a new form of advertising on the internet. The result was a film series called The Hire, starring Clive Owen as the man behind the wheel. The series was successful, and it went on to include a lot of different A-list directors and casts.
Now here comes Neil Blomkamp and Clive Owen revitalizing these ads and in the process exercising some cinematic skills as well. Clive Owen returns as the driver who is now in charge of taking a young woman to an unknown destination. Along the way the route is littered with bullets, trucks and men who have an unending willpower to try and stop this from happening.
This short film is only about 13 minutes long and completely worth the time to watch it. It is a non-stop action film and I am pretty sure some of the vehicle stunts were done real time and not CGI. At least it looked that way to me.
Along with Owen, the cast includes Dakota Fanning as the little girl and everyone’s favorite Punisher Jon Bernthal. The short also includes a little surprise cameo near the end. The film is really well-done storytelling, and without saying much, they flesh out a larger story that seems pretty intriguing. I wonder if they will make more in this story so we can see where it all goes.
