Eddie Redmayne is rumoured to be the next Doctor Who – and a ginger one at that!
“Still not ginger!” With those words, Matt Smith became the beloved 11th doctor, and highlighted a running joke that the world’s favorite Time Lord is continuously disappointed that he hasn’t regenerated into a redhead.
Because that might be about to change.
As photos and trailers for Fantastic Beasts and Wear To Find Them ramp up prior to tomorrow’s release, it’s apparent that Eddie can rock the frock coat and bow tie like few others; and many people have pointed out that he’s “basically playing Doctor Who” in the movie. And that’s led to interest in him actually taking the role of the Time Lord.
Swap the wand for a sonic screwdriver and you won’t even need
to call in the wardrobe department – he’s all set!
Eddie’s up for the challenge. In a recent interview on BBC Radio 1, he admitted: “I do see the resemblance. I see the scarf, I see the coat, I see the bow tie. I’m also a huge fan of those actors, love Matt Smith. I suppose the briefcase has a Tardis vibe to it – so yeah! Would I do it? Yeah! It’s a great show.”
At 34 years old, he’s not the youngest actor to take the role (that was 26-year-old Matt Smith) but he does fit into the magic heartthrob space that David Tennant did. More so than that, the Doctor is well overdue for being a ginger (ahem, possibly a women, or a person of color, too) and in real life Eddie Remayne literally has a “red mane.”
So I’m all for it! What about you? Let me know in the comments section below.
