‘NickToons’ to be Directed by Jared Hess, might just be my 90’s Nickelodeon Cartoon Fantasy
Let’s face it, you definitely watched Nickelodeon in the 90’s. I don’t care what age you were at the time, young and old alike could delight in any of the shows Nick had playing. Well OK maybe my mother didn’t understand CatDog but she struggled with the eternal discomfort of not understanding how they poop, which is completely fair.
I remember those lucky Saturday mornings, when Dad let me hop onto the plushy comforter and we watched a full hour of ‘Rugrats’ into the next full hour of ‘AHH Real Monsters’ together munching on unhealthy sugary cereals. I always pretended mine was Reptar Crunch for obvious reasons. It was true cartoon bliss!
Sigh… Where did those lazy Saturday morning cartoons go? They faded away with the 90’s as the 2000’s brought in the era of CGI and Super Heros, which has been an epic time for movies and shows. Personally though, I miss the shenanigans of the Angry Beavers, and Helga’s fantastic hidden love for Arnold displayed by aggressively picking on him, secret love poems and weird gum idol in her closet.
Luckily, a Deadline article brought to light that Paramount has decided to dust off these 90’s characters in a Who Framed Roger Rabbit style flick NickToons. The IMDB page is pretty grey and empty, so there is no real time frame on when we can expect more. But we do know a few things. Jared Hess (director for Napoleon Dynamite and Nacho Libre) will be directing and co-writing with Jershua Hess, his wife who wrote Napoleon Dynamite and Nacho Libre! They are a duo that I have no doubt contain the power to take on a movie such as this.
We also have a clue to which of these beloved characters will be making appearances. So far we know charatcers from the following shows will be featured: Rugrats, Ren & Stimpy, Rocko’s Modern Life, Aaahh! Real Monsters, The Angry Beavers and ‘more’. Hopefully that more is Doug and Hey Arnold because those are two that I would sorely miss seeing on the big screen!
So far all I know is I am excited for a potential reboot of some great characters, and really can’t wait for this to hit theaters!
UPDATE: As it turns out, Joe Murray (Rocko’s Modern Life) has stated that it’s NOT happening http://i.imgur.com/7jylQsC.jpg according to a “Nick Exec”. But as we all know (*ahem* Deadpool) if the internet wants something bad enough it could still happen, so let’s share the heck out of this and demand Nick give us the 90s Nicktoons movie we deserve! (Thanks Reddit users for pointing this out!)
