The sequel to the much maligned quasi-reboot / prequel to the Alien series is heading back for a part 2. According to Indiewire, Ridley Scott is keen to start shooting soon, maybe even as early as January.
“I’ve got back into the sci-fi thing, I kind of adore it,” Scott told Total Film recently.
For as many problems as Prometheus had with the script/story, I would certainly love to see where this sequel goes. Ridley’s visuals in Prometheus were a dazzling part of the film. I certainly love any kind of original (semi original) sci-fi feature on the big screen.
Also interesting to see it run concurrently with the rumored direct Alien series sequel/reboot that Neil Blomkamp is supposed to be doing with Sigourney Weaver reprising her Ripley in a movie that is to take place directly after ALIENS. How will Fox and the audience handle two concurrent story lines set in the same Universe at different times that also potentially jettison two of the major sequels (Alien 3&4)? If there is anything we learned from Marvel movies, it should not be a problem.
Scott’s latest ‘The Martian’ will arrive in theaters in October.
